The original Samsung Galaxy Tab released for cellular networks only, beginning with T-mobile on November 10th, 2010. Then Verizon on November 11th, 2010. Sprint relesed theirs on November 14th, 2010. The At&t started selling heirs on November 1st, 2010. The WiFi only version was available April 11th 2011. The original Galaxy Tab comes with Android 2.2 (Froyo), and is upgradable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It has a 7 inch Super TFT display at a 1024 x 600 resolution, which is generic for 7 inch tablets. It has only 2GB of flash data which is easily expandable via SD card. The Galaxy Tab also features a 1GHZ single core processor with a Hummingbird graphics chip.The Galaxy Tab has many evolutions that include many 10 inch models, and three other 7 inch models. The Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus upgrades the original so it could compete with modern tablets. It has a better screen, proccesor and now it has android 3.0 (Honeycomb). Then the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 released with a faster processor, a Super AMOLED screen, and Verizon 4G LTE radios.
Samsung has decided to refresh a the Galaxy Tabs 7 inch and 10 inch models. They released the Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) and (10.1). The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 became available April 22nd, 2012. It features downgraded VGA cameras and a downgraded 1GHZ proccesor. However there is the advantage of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). A bonus feature is the IR blaster which can emit an IR (infrared) signal and emulate a universal remote control. There is also an upgrade in the Samsung TouchWiz ui for android 4.0. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 is great tablet for productivity and entertainment, however at $250 for the wifi only 8GB model, you can surely find a similar device in the same price range. The Google Nexus 7 has better proccesor, the same resolution screen, and a newer version of Android for $199(8GB) and $250(16GB).
The Touchwiz ui does look very refined and thought through. There is the rear facing camera, a micro SD card slot, and the IR blaster which are features that make the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 appear better to some people. It will depend on the buyers desires and expectations.
